Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement report they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then located numerous other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report preliminary tests show the substance was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; authorities are currently not aware of any harm in relation with the incident," they stated.
City officials said they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the community for tips.
A high-ranking official said the attack rendered him without words and had to be solved quickly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right attack in 2020," he wrote on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of foreign heritage in 2020.
